Sundial Photographic is evolvolving

Well here we go, into the wild blue yonder of blogging to keep you, my family, my friends and my customers in touch with all the developments and activities here in the wonderful digital world of Sundial Photographic.

With the business well established and the onset of a new financial year I'm excited by the new challenges that await over the next 12 months and I hope that you'll accompany me on my journey via this blog.

After 3 years of hard work to establish my reputation as a lifestyle wedding photographer I have finally decided to submit a portfolio to the SWPP (The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) in order to attain formal professional recognition from my peers.

I have to submit 20 images for assessment and am curently selceting then re-editing those images to meet the Society's exacting standards. I've posted 3 below, please leave a comment and tell me what you think?

Whilst I'm talking about weddings the next one is Sunday at Aston Hall with Julie and James. They are a lovely couple and I had the pleasure of working with them just a couple of weeks ago, when we all met up for a photoshoot at Aston. Can't wait, just keep your fingers crossed that the weather is kind.

Away from Weddings I have taken a number of steps to extend the range and depth of my sports portfolio. One of these is to team up with Mark Ludbrook a sports and event photographer based in Matlock. He trades as http://www.sportsshots.co.uk/ and we both felt that a partnership would not only pool our resources but also be of mutual benefit. In future weeks I'll be updating my website with new images so keep a look out for the updated gallery pages.

Another great opportunity later in April will see me at Shrewsbury Town FC for the England Women's soccer international against Norway. Not only will it will be nice to catch up with a few old friends after the game, but it will also be a fantastic opportunity to add to my portfolio.

So tomorrow it's April 1st - Happy April Fools day to you all!!!!!! - My day will be spent slaving over the computer selecting landscapes for my first ever craft fair in a couple of weeks time. An exciting but daunting prospect..... I like my photographs, but will anyone else like them enough to spend their money???? I suppose that only time will tell. I'll tell you more in my next blog and if you are in the Bakewell area over Easter weekend I'll let you know where you can find me.

So if you've made it this far, thank you for reading, I promise they will improve with time......

Love, peace and chocolate to all...take care till next time

The Engagement photoshoot

For Jane Haslam Photography the engagement photo-shoot is an essential step in the build up to any wedding, as it provides an ideal opportunity not only to establish confidence in the photographer but also establishes a relaxed working relationship between photographer and client. The photo-shoot takes place at a location and time of the clients choosing. We take our time to wander around the location, discussing likes, dislikes as well as trying out various poses, The resulting portfolio is made available for immediate download as well as being included on the final photo cd. The images can also be used to produce  personalized gifts that say thank you to family and friends. Gemma and Dave  had a love of wide open spaces and for them it was important that their photo-shoot placed them in the landscape where they loved to walk their dogs. For Ben and Ruth the lure of a vibrant field of rapeseed proved too much temptation and even though Ben w...

Image is everything

With my background in sport I suppose it's no surprise that I am trying to make a reputation for myself in high quality sports photography. So last night saw me make the tortuous drive across country to Shrewsbury Town FC, to photograph England's Women's side as they began their preparations for Euro 2009. As well as some great action, and a 3-0 win for England, it was lovely to catch up with a few old friends from the Football Association. It seems like an age since I left to start my new life in photography. Here a few of the results some of which may surface in my forthcoming book about girls and womens football. The weekend looks like being one devoted to rugby photography as t omorrow I am in the fortunate position of being able to cover a Guinness Premiership Rugby game - Leicester Tigers v Bristol in what is being billed as Super Saturday. It's the last regular day of the season so there should be a carnival atmosphere at the Walkers Stadium. Then on Sunday I wi...
